No New Voter Turnout Record in 2008

Voter turnout this year was as good as always, but not record-breaking. The SOS is currently estimating 2,915,781 voters out of 3,741,514 eligible voters for a voter turnout percentage of 77.93%.

Minnesota’s best ever voter turnout was in 1956. While presidential election year turnout in Minnesota has typically been between 70% and 80% (and averages just under 60% for in non-presidential election years), 1956 is the only year it’s been over 80% since 1950.

But still. 78% is pretty damn good. I’ll take it. Nice job, Minnesota.

I’m still waiting for George Mason University to update their voter turnout numbers for the nation with this year’s data.

  1. I’ve been waiting to see these numbers (and moreso, the national ones, so I guess we’ll just have to wait a bit more).
    Thanks for posting ‘em!

Still very impressive, and in a year when our Senatorial race will be decided by a few hundred votes, I really felt like my vote did matter (even if things don’t end up going the way I would like.)
