And I pretty much only know what I know from rabidly attending the Fringe Festival. I wouldn't have thought that I'd like it, but I have really liked everything I've seen. I gather there are differences between "slam" and "spoken word," but I'm not totally clear on what they are and I don't think they're mutually exclusive. Clearly some performers go back and forth between the two. The subject matter runs the gambit from comedy to political. Anyway. Yeah, it's pretty cool, and the community here seems to be pretty strong. There’s so much more to this scene than I had realized.
