• My friend and the Artistic Director of the Twin Cities Women’s Choir, Mary Bussman, was just featured in a lovely profile at the Minnesota Women’s Press on her legacy of kindness. She’s really a phenomenal woman and everyone in the choir adores her. She’s fun to watch from the audience, too, if you come to our concert on Feb 7.
• The Minnesota Senate budget website has lots of useful info, shiny graphs, and HEY that Wordpress template looks familiar. (via @missashe)
• The U.S. Pond Hockey Championships are this weekend. I haven’t attended since they moved it to Lake Nokomis. Hmmmm… I’ve got no plans for tomorrow during the day…
• The University of Minnesota wants to change the name of the Institute of Technology because apparently the Google search results for “Minnesota + engineering” are shitty (which actually seems to not be the case at all). Of course they can’t change the name without a study, which is conveniently being provided by the Carlson School at the low, low cost of $20,000. It’s true, though. When I think “I.T.” I think information technology. I would expect their college of science and engineering to be called, I don’t know, the “College of Science and Engineering.” For the commentors who were fretting about what their older diploma or resume actually says, chill. The degree and the university are all that matter. (via TC Daily Planet)
• I’m trying to figure out what exactly it is about mspmag’s “real model” contest that makes me want to throw up. I think it’s the whole concept of models in general. Each thumbnail profile contains the first half-sentence of their personal statement and they’re all dumb. I feel stupider for even having thought this much about it.
