Since people keep finding my post about buying my HDTV from Second Act while googling to see if Second Act has closed, I thought I’d update on the situation.
I visited secondact.com today and saw this message:
A Message From Our Founder
The team at Second Act would like to thank all of the customers who have shopped with us over the past 6 years. Unfortunately, owed to the current economic environment, we have been forced to cease operations. We have thoroughly enjoyed assisting you with your HDTV purchases and regret having to leave the scene. We hope that you have felt well served by our efforts on your behalf.
I had been checking back periodically and hadn’t seen anything out of the ordinary. I’m thinking this message went up in the last month or so, though obviously the rumor’s been swirling for much longer than that. I figured the upcoming digital transition would help them out a little as people with the means to do so go ahead and invest in upgrading their TVs instead of mucking around with convertor boxes, but clearly whatever bump that may have given them is not enough to overcome the fact that people are just not trying to spend $500 or more on a television (even if that is 30%-50% off).
You can still contact them if you have a customer service issue.
I’m sorry to see them go. And glad I already bought my tv.

These guys were probably more victims of the price squeeze in the HDTV segment – why buy used when for a couple hundred more you can have a better new….
I Need to get in contact with somebody from secondact electronics… If you have any info… if would be appreciated
I bought my TV from them and wish they would of been able to stay in the game longer. Prices weren’t bad selection wasn’t bad either sometimes they didn’t always have what i was looking for but what i have to say about them there shipping was so fast i just about couldn’t believe it ordered my 46″ lcd tv at like 3 pm it showed up 10:30 am next day. They will be missed.
Made a few purchases from them. The prices were fair, but the selling point was the attractive warranties available for the used, returned or open box items.
Any issues I had were promptly resolved and all my purchases have performed great.
I still think there is a place for them and I miss their weekly specials. Currently I have been looking for a large DLP and that was one item they were very competitive on.
Its a good business model to build on, I’m sure like anything it takes pretty deep pockets to go through the peaks and valleys. Let us know if another turns up.
