I know there are a ton of sources. Maybe you go by blogs and Twitter alone, or maybe you think traditional media websites do just fine. I’m asking you to choose between these two for a reason. Aside from a handful of notable single-person operations, I think these two sites are the top two local and locally-focused examples of the (ongoing) evolution of online news delivery, and now that they’ve both been around for a while they’ve settled into their respective identities and feature sets.

So do vote. You should only be able to do so once. Also, feel free to leave a comment on this post expounding on your answer. Is it the content? Is it the look and feel? Is it the voice? Is it the technical delivery? Something else? What do you think they do well that sucks you in? What do you think they do poorly that drives you away?

I also understand that folks visiting this site are possibly inclined to think this is old news (*rimshot*) and a tired question. My experience says that there are still a LOT of people — avid news consumers, even — that consider themselves to be not-tech-unsavvy but are just waking up to the idea of these sites. Help me explain to them what the appeal and the challenges of these efforts are.

Huh? It hardly seems like a fair comparison, considering budgets, staffing levels and missions.

I don’t think those differences make one inherently better than the other. That’s why “both” and “neither” are also options.

I’m not sure which site is dinner and which site is dessert, but I’d hate to go without either one of them…the mainstream media choices are like soda pop by comparison.

On line papers are obviously the wave of the future; but as a leading edge phenomena there are many difficulties…trial and erro…start up gliches…funding issues etc My hat is off to both our fine on line papers, and their staffs, for navigating these uncharted waters. To both, a job well done!
