This one sentence is so quintessential:
Slightly more than half of respondents oppose a state-run casino inside the ticketed area at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport; and nearly the same oppose allowing Minnesotans to fish with two rods at once.
8,746 people participated in the poll. Other highlights:
- 69.1% approved of medical marijuana use for terminally ill patients.
- 51% said a person should automatically be registered to vote when they register for a driver’s license or state ID.
- 56.8% approved of early voting up to two weeks before Election Day.
- 48.1% disapproved of unallotment powers for the governor.
- 76.2% said bill and budget negotiations should be required to be open to the public.
- 47.5% supported budget cuts in times of economic distress, vs 43.8% supporting tax increases and 8.7% undecided/no opinion.
- 63.5% said voter approval should be required for public financing of a new or refurbished stadium for the Vikings.
- 68.3% said charter school students should be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities offered in their district if the charter school doesn’t offer it.
- 70.8% approved of the establishment of a local disaster assistance fund in case of natural disaster.
- 81% agreed that a homeowner should be entitled to legal costs if the homeowner prevails in court over a contractor or builder to have a warranty enforced.

I believe the Vikings will be asking for a referendum “waiver” much like the Twins to circumvent or “end run” the will of the People concerning public stadium funding.
I wish I could remember now where I read it, but I’ve seen a lot of praise for Mike Opat, his work on the referendum waiver, and how that revenue has also benefited the library system. I’m not arguing against that particular benefit, but I still hate that the taxpayers had no say.
