2009 Holiday Lights in the Park at Lake Phalen

This year’s IBEW Lights in the Park started tonight.

Last year I gave you a number of excellent reasons why you should go. This year, all I can really think of is how it reminds me of the Domino Farms display in Ann Arbor, MI, which I used to drive past frequently (you can see them from the highway), and which apparently doesn’t even happen anymore.

Anyway, holiday cheer.

November 24 – New Year’s Eve
Phalen Park, St. Paul (1615 Phalen Dr. E., St. Paul, MN 55106)
5:30 – 10:00 pm nightly
$10 per vehicle
$8.00 value nights Sun. – Thurs. (excluding holidays)
Limousines/Passenger Vans/Mini Buses $15
Motor Coach $45

IBEW Holiday Lights in the Park is a spectacular drive through holiday light experience that allows the community to come together, volunteer together, spread goodwill and cheer, and extend a hand to those in need during the holiday season. All net proceeds of the event are donated to Second Harvest Heartland, Union Gospel Mission, St. Paul Parks Conservancy Foundation and UnderConstruction—charities focused on fundamental community needs such as food, shelter, education, and the environment.

Charity Partners

Second Harvest Heartland: The Upper Midwest’s largest hunger-relief organization, working to end hunger through community partnerships. Second Harvest Heartland distributes more than 48 million pounds of food annually to more than 980 member agencies and programs in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Each $1 donated provides $9 in grocery products to our neighbors in need.

Union Gospel Mission: Working to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and educational needs of the economically disadvantaged men, women and children of the Twin Cities, through a variety of life-changing programs and services.

St. Paul Parks Conservancy: Securing resources to enhance parks and recreational opportunities throughout Saint Paul.

UnderConstruction: Teaching youth what it takes to be an employable worker. Introducing high school students to the construction trades to explore the possibilities of a construction career.

IBEW is the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, btw. Lights in the Park also stepped up their social media game for this year, so check them on facebook, twitter, flickr, and vimeo. (No videos yet, but I’m assuming there will be at least one drive-through style vid forthcoming.)

  1. Thanks for the tip. I had never heard of it, but we’ll check it out. I’m always looking for activities where I can keep my kids buckled in their car seats :).
